Spacecom is a 100% national company, which develops and supplies a complete family of devices aimed at monitoring people for the public security area. In addition to Offender Tracking Devices (OTDs), Spacecom provides auxiliary devices that allow the monitoring of victims of the Maria da Penha law, continuous monitoring in regions without GNSS coverage, mobile chargers, among others.

Always maintaining its technological pioneering spirit, the 4th generation of Spacecom equipment has 4G IoT data communication technology. In addition, the OTDs have exclusive sensors for detecting metallic material and an optical closing system with its own IP68 certification.

All devices developed by Spacecom have features and functionality that reflect Spacecom’s years of experience working with the Brazilian prison system.

How does it work

The Spacecom OTDs are devices meant to be used by convicted offenders, of easy manipulation, featuring high security on the transmission and storage of information, robust and small in size, complying with national and international norms and costs that are compatible with the Brazilian demands.

Whilst being monitored, the participant must have the device placed on one of the OTDs. The location GNSS and alarms information are transmitted to Spacecom servers via mobile network and made available on a web interface. That way, the contractor has full access to the monitoring data from any device connected to the internet in real time.

Security

The new devices are equipped with several security mechanisms that guarantee the integrity of the system. In addition to position information and various alarms, the system monitors several possible irregularities, such as:

  • Disruption of the fixation belt of the OTDs;
  • Outer shell breach;
  • Motion without GNSS signal;
  • Metal material detection;
  • Impact detection.

There are more than 30 different information related to the devices and their sensors being collected and transmitted at all times by the devices. The news OTDs also have a new and exclusive optical coupling system (contact between fixing strap and housing) with IP68 certification.

Coverage Area

The new OTDs rely on two simcards. This means that the coverage area is, at least, as big as the coverage of the two mobile carriers of the simcards.

Aside from its widespread coverage area, the communication redundancy leverages the ability of the system to remain operative should any of the carriers run into service disruption.

The new devices have 2G and/or 3G and/or 4G (IoT) technology with redundancy, that is, in the absence of a preferred technology, they start operating on another technology automatically.
